Ingredients
- 800g beef brisket, cut into 2-inch chunks
- 500g daikon radish, peeled and cut into 1-inch thick rounds
- 4 slices ginger
- 2 spring onions, roughly chopped
- 2 pieces dried tangerine peel (陳皮), soaked
- 2 star anise
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1.5 liters water or beef broth
- Salt to taste
Steps
- Blanch beef brisket in boiling water for 5-10 minutes to remove impurities. Drain and rinse with cold water.
- In a large pot, combine the blanched beef brisket, ginger, spring onions, soaked dried tangerine peel, star anise, light soy sauce, sugar, and water/beef broth.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours (90 minutes).
- Add daikon radish to the pot and continue to simmer for another 1 hour (60 minutes), or until beef brisket and daikon are very tender.
- Season with salt before serving. Remove star anise, ginger, and spring onions before serving.
